Trauma Therapy
Trauma is a popular word and its meaning varies from person to person. One common symptom of unresolved trauma is a feeling of “stuckness”, “being frozen” or “paralyzed”. Two highly effective therapies for reducing trauma are Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)and Somatic Experiencing (SE).
EMDR is a specialized approach, which seems to accelerate the treatment of a variety of psychological complaints such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety. EMDR’s techniques employ a strategy that helps shift brain images from the traumatic event to a healthy image. It works well with fears and phobias, and issues of self esteem that are related to upsetting past events and present life conditions or situations, or disturbing experiences
Somatic Experiencing is a body-focused therapy that identifies the “stuckness” and helps release the trauma. Often this can be done without reliving the actual traumatic event.
